Las Palmas House, Noosa Heads, Australia

California Vibes in Queensland: a Palm Springs modernist-style home for two designed by Tim Ditchfield Architects on Australia’s Sunshine Coast.

Inspired by their travels through California, a Queensland couple had one clear wish: a home in Desert Modernism style. Pioneered by architects like Richard Neutra and Albert Frey, this distinctive look gives Palm Springs its iconic modernist ‘desert architecture’ – an homage to its unforgiving climate and stark landscape. Even today, this Californian city remains a mecca for architecture enthusiasts. To translate this architectural style to Queensland, the Australians found the perfect partner in Tim Ditchfield Architects, a multiple award-winning firm from Noosa Heads.

Liz Chair & Seito Dining Table

Mid-century architectural cues are seen in strongly pronounced horizontal planes, simple forms, and materials such as in-situ concrete, anodized aluminum, and special bricks. The house blurs the line between indoors and outdoors through the use of classic and contemporary furnishings. In the open dining area, overlooking the water and a lush green courtyard, our Seito Table and Liz Chairs take center stage. The Seito’s sculptural design balances lines, angles, and lines, providing a striking focal point against the minimalist backdrop. With black-coated frames and fabric upholstery, the Liz Chairs offer a timeless appeal that quietly underpins the architectural aesthetic while easily accommodating larger groups.

375 Armchair & 375 Side Table

The upper floor houses the private quarters, where the spacious bedroom affords residents a morning view of the water. Our 375 Armchairs, paired with Stool and Side Table, are strategically positioned before floor-to-ceiling windows – perfect for savoring a tranquil morning coffee. This 1950s-era collection blends seamlessly into the decor. Walter K., the furniture brand of the modern age – impressively showcased at the Las Palmas House in Queensland.
